中文：陳澄波於民前十七年二月二日出生於嘉義。父親為前清秀才。從很小的時候起，陳澄波就時常抱著做大事的願望。一九二四年陳澄波赴日考入東京美術學校師範科。一九二六年以畫作〈嘉義街外〉首次入選日本第七屆帝展。
一九二九年三月，他自東京美術學校畢業，即動身前往上海。時值上海第一次 全國美術展覽會，陳澄波初抵上海，即任此會的西畫評審員。他居住於上海期間，對中國畫有更多的接觸與認識，其中特別喜歡倪雲林與八大山人的作品。在日後的 畫作中，可見到其影響力反應在他的畫面上。 一九三三年六月，陳澄波返回嘉義，已接近不惑之年，在鄉人的眼中，他仍然具有文化英雄的色彩。自從回台後，老家嘉義自然經常入畫，而且其間風格變化頗為明顯。由於開始接觸嚴格西畫訓練的年 歲較晚，他早年在台灣自我摸索的痕跡一生未曾拋棄，此包括對主觀敘述意識的偏 好以及強烈的鄉土色感。而在他重返家鄉後，自我的風格逐漸穩定地成長、成熟。然由於社會時代的局限，讓他的雄心壯志終不得實踐。他在戰爭前後，那段黑暗、不安、沈默的日子裡，寫下心中最崇高的 藝術形象。他相信未來將如日出般，無限的燦爛。 |
